Grammar ?

Hello Again,

I am also wondering why we don't have to use and artcle "the" when we say, for example, " The student was absent from class". "Class"doesn't need an article?

Hi Scott and welcome to English forums! "From/In class" is just another idiomatic expression pretty much like "at school/"in school" etc. When "class" and "school" are used in the sense of what they represent (places of education) they don't require an article.

  • For example Peter is at school.
  • (he is a student there) Hurry up, you don't want to be late for school.
