graduated

I had the same dilemma as you. I didn't know what I wanted to do after I graduate.

Should it be graduate or graduated if I haven't graduated yet?

Thanks!

Hi, PreciousJones. ( After your graduation, you can say this) I don't know what I want to do after I graduate. The second one is more suitable for you since you haven't graduated yet.

Both are fine. Native speakers often regress the subordinate verb with the main verb.

At the time when I was talking to my friend about this dilemma(past situation), I hadn't graduated yet, but was unsure of what I wanted to do in life. So, I said, "I had the same dilemma as you. I didn't know what I wanted to do after I graduate.

My meaning is that I still haven't graduated yet, so that's why I didn't use graduated. So, should it be graduated or graduate?

Precious,
What you said is correct. You haven't graduated yet, so you can't use the past tense for "graduate". But you are talking about an event in the past, so you must use the past tense for the other verbs.

I didn't know what I wanted to do after I graduate.
I believe that this is the only combination of tenses that accurately expresses what you are tryin
