Graded or rated

Is there any difference between "graded" and "rated" when used to assess tests for students?

Hi Tamb There's not a great difference. If I wished to make one, I'd say that a grading has fewer steps in it and they might not be numerical. A rating could be a sliding scale with more differentiation: - Out of A, B, C, D and E, I was graded D.

Hi Tamb

There's not a great difference. If I wished to make one, I'd say that a grading has fewer steps in it and they might not be numerical. A rating could be a sliding scale with more differentiation:

- Out of A, B, C, D and E, I was graded D.

- On a percentage scale, I rated 22%

But, in various contexts, people use the words in various ways

- The hotel rated
