"grab me by my hand"vs"grab my hand"

What's the difference in meaning between the following two sentences? Are the both grammatically correct?
He grabs me by my hand
He grabs my hand
Can you explain why they are different in meaning or point out the problem?

Top answer

Both are fine and usually synonymous. Perhaps the form with 'by' would be used when the grabber had a further purpose beyond simply holding the hand.
