Railways system plays an important role in the economy of every countries acquiring it. Therefore, many people believe that governments should invest more in railways rather than roads. From my perspective, authorities should put emphasis on both such systems.
It is true that there are many reasons explaining why railways should be funded more by fiscal budget. First and foremost, most of facilities and utilities of those systems, especially in developing countries, are from the previous ages, such as 18th and 19th century, so they are comparatively old and downgraded. Obviously, if we don't spend sufficient money to maintain and improve them, trains working on these railways may suffer from technical problems; therefore, leads to catastrophic accidents. Moreover, by completely upgrading these systems, governments contribute to the prevention of global warming. It is obvious that if a traditional train, operated by fossil fuel, is replaced by the most modern version, usually use electricity as its main source of energy, a huge amount of emission is reduced, triggering an amelioration in the air quality and lowering the speed of global warming.
However, I also share the idea of people who reckon that not only railways but also roads should receive attention from authorities. First, there is no need to say that roads nowadays still play a major role in the transport system. It is clear that more and more residents these days prefer commuting by cars to using railways service when travelling a long distance. In addition, although railways accidents are considered as one of the most disastrous crashes, collisions taking place on ordinary roads happen more frequently. Hence, if we do not improve the conditions of roads, arising reports of road accidents are inevitable.
All in all, I am totally convinced that governments should not only upgrading railways systems, but also improve the road conditions as well.
