Gotten to talking...

Hi,



I heard a native English speaker say something like the sentence below, not sure though. I understand that she was talking hypothetically, but not sure what she meant by ‘gotten to talking’.



"Had you waited for another 10 minutes, we would have met in the lobby and gotten to talking.”

Hi MG Well, it does sound as though you might not have written the sentence exactly as it was uttered, however I would understand "(would have) gotten to talking" to mean something similar to "(would have) eventually begun/started a conversation".

Thanks. The person was talking hypotheically about how some events would have changed the course of her life.

Is 'would have gotten to talking' appropriate in that situation?
