Got/borrow

Are both OK:

I crashed my car and got one from my friend.

And

I crashed my car and had to borrow one from my friend.

The first one doesn't seem to have quite the right cause-and-effect connection between the parts, and both sound a bit as if cars are plentiful items that most people have several of. I would say: I crashed my car and ( so) had to borrow my friend's.
