'GOT THEMSELVES' and 'BAD SMALL ENDS OF BARBECUE'

'He had his barbecue ... and you could smell that charcoal smoke all over 15th Street. So everybody GOT THEMSELVES a sandwich or one of THOSE BAD SMALL ENDS OF BARBECUE before the day was out.'
Could someone explain me the meaning of these expressions on capital letters?
Thanks in advance, Jo.
