Got it going

Hi, please help me.

'He was released from jail and told the paper he spent a little over $1,000 to build the reactor but he "got it going.'

I don't understand the meaning of 'got it going.'

I don't either, Tashiro, but I suppose it means that the reactor is operational. Still, 'but' confuses me.

Hi,

'He was released from jail and told the paper he spent a little over $1,000 to build the reactor but he "got it going.'

The thought appears to be that $1,000 is a ridiculously low amount to spend to build a nuclear reactor. But (ie despite the ridiculously low amount of money) he made it work.
