Got a raise (for) his first year

No wonder this careful employee got a raise his first year. He is thorough in doing his work.

Hi,

Should there be "for" before "his first year" in the above? Thanks.

No, because the 1st year isn't the reason for his getting a pay raise but his meticulessness and hard work. If you want to use "for" in the sentence, then you can say: He got a pay raise for his hard work in his first year.
