Gosho, "Reply to the mother of Lord Ueno',

In His Gosho, "Reply to the mother of Lord Ueno', the Daishonin wrote about His failing health.

Are the highlighted commas necessary? If not, please let me know why.

The children enjoyed an outdoor puppet show based on the poem,“The Giving Tree”. (I asked this question in my earlier post, and the reply was the highlighted comma is not needed.) Is this sentence the same type as the above sentence?

Thank you.

Yes. assuming that "Reply to the mother of Lord Ueno" is renaming "His Gosho."

Note that the opening and closing quotation marks must match.

I would use the comma in both cases. I see no real difference in the underlying structure.

I'd consider 'no comma' in cases where the work is very, very well known.
eg In the play "Hamlet", Shakespeare discusses the topic of suicide.
But in a case like this, I think I'd go further and just say
eg In "Hamlet", Shakespeare discusses the topic of suicide.

Thank you, AS and Clive.

In both cases, are they not appositives, so commas are not needed?

I am not familiar with the term "Gosho". Is "Reply to the mother of Lord Ueno" just one example of a "Gosho" written by this author? If so, the first comma should be deleted.

The comma in "The children enjoyed an outdoor puppet show based on the poem, 'The Giving Tree'" is wrong in my opinion.

Yes. gosho = 'honorable writings'; a sort of genre of writing in Buddhism as I understand it.

Are the highlighted commas necessary?
No. Certainly not the first. Some authors would use the second comma, though strictly speaking it's not necessary after an introductory prepositional phrase (unless perhaps it is a very long one).

In that case the first comma is wrong.

May I ask another similar question.

US President Donald Trump is a billionaire. (No comma after "President".)

Donald Trump, president of the US, is a billionaire. (Commas as shown.)

Are the sentences perfect with no errors?

Any comments are welcomed.

Thank you.
