Goomba speak

In case you mooks are interested, 'A Goomba's Guide To Life' by Steven Schirripa (Bobby Bacala on the Sopranos) offers these tidbits:

- 'to duke' is to tip
"He's gonna tip the maitre'd to get a good table, but he's gonna duke the kid at the car wash, too, just to show his appreciation."

- a guy just off the boat is a 'zip'.
"There were two guys who were in Vinny the Zip's joint all the time. One guy was called Skinny Vinny. Some nights Skinny Vinny and Vinny the Bear would both be at Vinny the Zip's at the same time. Thank God there were only three of them."
- The 'a boost' is the money you give the bridge and groom instead of a wedding gift. You also give a smaller one to the widow at a funeral.

"What's the date?"
"It's Saturday"
"This Saturday? I gotta give the a boost?"
"Of course the a boost. Whatta you think?"
"Alright, alright. How much?"
"A couple hundred."
- A mistress is a 'goomar'. A tough guy is a 'hard-on'. A tough woman is a 'half a hard-on'. A tough female lawyer is 'half a hard-on with a suitcase'.

Now if he could only explain the attraction of wearing fancy jogging suits ...

He does say 'goomar' comes from 'godmother'. Goombas are not AUErs. What's wrong with these paragraphs:
"Leonardo da Vinci: Inventor of the reflecting telescope and the helicopter. Sculptor. Painter, Genius! Goomba? Don't think so.

I don't think I need a word for this latter action, as I've never heard of it. Do people hand out cash at funerals? It's not in the English culture to give cash as gifts, except to children.

I've never heard of people marrying bridges, either. Or is that what really goes on at those "bridge clubs"?

[nq:1]Goomba is to compare as Gooma is to comare. Unsurprisingly. Compare is yer actual Godfather. Though goomba has come to mean an average connected palooka.[/nq]
I presume those palookas are 'made' men.

Naah, these are just Italian streetcorner guys who sometimes like to pretend they're made. Here's a goomba food quiz:
1. What's the difference between marinara and Bolognese sauce?
2. What is pasta fazool?
3. How do you pronounce proscuitto?
4. During an Italian meal, when do you serve the antipasto platter? What's on it?

The rules are pretty strict. You wear black. You act sad. You go to the funeral home, you sign the book to show you were there, you give a little a boost in an envelope to help pay for the funer
