Goomba speak
In case you mooks are interested, 'A Goomba's Guide To Life' by Steven Schirripa (Bobby Bacala on the Sopranos) offers these tidbits:
- 'to duke' is to tip
"He's gonna tip the maitre'd to get a good table, but he's gonna duke the kid at the car wash, too, just to show his appreciation."
- a guy just off the boat is a 'zip'.
"There were two guys who were in Vinny the Zip's joint all the time. One guy was called Skinny Vinny. Some nights Skinny Vinny and Vinny the Bear would both be at Vinny the Zip's at the same time. Thank God there were only three of them."
- The 'a boost' is the money you give the bridge and groom instead of a wedding gift. You also give a smaller one to the widow at a funeral.
"What's the date?"
"It's Saturday"
"This Saturday? I gotta give the a boost?"
"Of course the a boost. Whatta you think?"
"Alright, alright. How much?"
"A couple hundred."

He does say 'goomar' comes from 'godmother'. Goombas are not AUErs. What's wrong with these paragraphs:

I don't think I need a word for this latter action, as I've never heard of it. Do people hand out cash at funerals? It's not in the English culture to give cash as gifts, except to children.
