Google is making vs Google makes

  • To refer to tendencies and trends:
    The world's population is increasing rapidly.

    Google is making it easier for people to find, rate and share information about local businesses.

    I know I have asked this question before but I really find it difficult to understand between this use ( trend or tendency) of present continuous and simple present.
