'good' vs 'nice'

Can I say "He is good" instead of "He is nice"? Or, does it sound a little awkward?

lucas21cHe is good
There are various meanings. One of them is "He is quite competent (at what he does)".
lucas21cHe is nice
He is pleasant, polite, easy to get along with. (Nothing to do with competence.)

I just want to describe his character or personality simply. For this purpose, does "He is good" have a too vague or broad meaning? I wonder whether "He is nice/kind" is better.

Yes. Too vague.
lucas21cI wonder whether "He is nice/kind" is better.
Yes. I'd say it's better. It's also a bit vague, but it's better.
