Good English

Dear all,

What is mean by the term "good english"?Here in India our teachers and other english language experts advice us to study maximum vocabulary from dictionary and apply it when write in english and the use of that rich vocabulary in sentences shows that one achieved good english. But personally I give more importance to grammer. I try to write my sentences with gramatical perfection. Actually what is more important in writing; rich vocabulary or gramatical perfection. Expect your valuable opinion in this.

Ideally you need both, but if I had to choose between grammatical writing that uses simple vocabulary, and ungrammatical writing that uses elaborate vocabulary, then I would choose the former. Spelling: gramm a r

You can do very well with 5,000 to 8,000 words. Any more than that and you're mostly learning high-class synonyms. I'd advise learning those as you come across them in your reading. Just digging them out of a dictionary is not going to help much.
