GOOD AS BRANFORD CAN PLAY

Hi,
I would like someone explain to me the meaning of this paragraph from Miles Davis's Autobiography:

'They even got him putting down his own brother for playing the kind of music he wants to play. Now you know that's some bullshit right there, good as Branford can play.'

Thanks.

They even succeeded in persuading* him (using their own behavior as the model) to criticize / belittle his brother because of the music his brother wanted to play. Now, that's pretty nasty, considering how well Branford plays. ) CJ

(*Not necessarily literal persuasion with words - persuasion by example.)
