Goober

I found this video of two new yorkers having an argument on the street:

The recorder repeatedly calls the other guy a "goober", what does that mean? I assume it is an insult but I never heard it before.

Goober is an regional (Southern) word for a peanut. It is of African origin. If someone called you a peanut , just imagine if that would be a good thing or a bad thing.

  • Goober is an regional (Southern) word for a peanut.

  • If someone called you a peanut , just imagine if that would be a good thing or a bad thing.
  • The urban dictionary cites both meanings - a wacky goofball (used positively), or a simple-minded dolt (used as an insult).
  • So I suppose it's down to the context and tone of voice.

Thank you AlpheccaStars. So it is just another word for "idiot", it seems. I thought it could have some special meaning based on the behavior or appearance of that guy.
