Gong to moon

1. If I went to Moon, I would be suffocated.

2. If I went to Moon, I will be suffocated.


Which is the correct one? My wife approves both of them. I guess the first sentence is the proper one because this is completely an unreal event. This will never take place.

I'd say, "If I went to the moon, I would suffocate."
It's also possible to say, "If I go to the moon, I'll suffocate."
