GONE TO-BEEN TO

Hello, I have a question regarding "gone to" and "been to" in the following sentence

.

Instruction: Use the correct form of Past Simple or Present Perfect

Anna _________(not go) to a concert since she was 20

.

I thought the answer is "hasn't gone", but the answer key says "hasn't been"

My question is: the verb in the bracket is "go", why don't we stick with "go" only? Is it correct to change the verb in the bracket (my teachers in my country say we should never change it, just stick to it only)

Thank you for reading my question.

I would in the absence of other instructions. hyakuya stars Is it correct to change the verb in the bracket (my teachers in my country say we should never change it, just stick to it only) There can be no international law about that.

  • It is a poor test that tests something other than what it is designed for, in this case, testing your ability to read minds and figure out ambiguous instructions instead of do grammar.
  • If there are no other instructions with the test, you might justify switching verbs by pointing out that the question asks for a tense, so it shouldn't matter which verb you use if they are equally good, and "hasn't gone" and "hasn't been" are equally good here.

It's hasn't gone or hadn't gone.

The answer key has got it wrong. The question should not have 'go' if you're supposed to use 'be' in the answer.
