Gone for a toss/ screwed up

Hiya

I am wondering if these expressions are correct:

My cell phone has gone for a toss.

My net link went for a toss.

My washing machine is completely screwed up.

Hi Misty77 Your first two sentences are basically meaningless to me. Perhaps the expression "go for a toss" is limited to a particular dialect of English. To me, your third sentence means that your washing machine is either broken or working extremely badly.

'My cell phone is gone for a toss' is same as 'my cell phone is screwed up' in Indian English...don't know what the root is, though..

to go for a toss means to stop work something when it is urgent or important .....when you use that expression then you have to give reason why it is '' paralyzed'' , blocked, immobilized, grind to standstill, ........for example here is news headline from India ......BJP sticks to guns on PM's ouster, House biz goes for a toss again''
