Gone are/were the days when he exercises regularly.

Gone are/were the days when he exercises regularly. Nowadays, since he got a desk-bound job, he hardly exercises.

Should it be 'are' or 'were'?

Thanks.

Let's straighten out the inversion. Would you say "a" or "b"? a- The days are gone when he would exercise regularly.

I'm sure you can work this out yourself if you just apply the tried-and-true principle of matching the tenses.

And when you've finished working that out, I'm sure you can work out the next one too:

Gone are/were the d
