"Gone"

Can "He is gone" be used for saying that someone has gone for lunch. I understand that He has gone for lunch makes it a 100% clear, but I just wanted to know if "He is gone" could be interpreted that way and added to the other possible meanings such as:

He isn't at that place anymore, He has left for the day.

Many Thanks!
