Can it be called 'golden years' if people are in their 40's or 50's. Why not? if the answer is 'NO'.

Why are people called in their 'golden years' after they reach some kind of age? Why 'golden'? What does 'golden' symbolize?

Thanks,

I don't think you've hit your "golden years" until at least sixty. I'm not sure where the term comes from. I think it's simply a euphemism for the waning years of one's life.

Hi Guys,

I'd say it reflects the prevalent hope that retirement can be a time of happiness and fulfillment.

Best wishes,

Clive
