Going or gone

1. (With Mrs Jones) Him going to New York, Mr Smith took up her position.
2.(With Mrs Jones) Him gone to New York, Mr Smith took up her position.
My question is that do the two sentences above carry the same meaning and can I use the two sentences interchangeably?
