going on hikes

I would like to know if the meaning of "1" is "2", "3" or anything.
1. My grandpa and I were best buddies, going on hikes, fishing and working in her grandpa's garden.
2. My grandpa and I were best buddies and went on hikes, fished and worked in her grandpa's garden.
3. My grandpa and I were best buddies, so we went on hikes, fished and worked in her grandpa's garden.

Top answer

1 = 2. 3 is a little different; though it carries the main idea, it also expresses cause and effect.
