Going for a date

I wrote a message a couple days ago but can not find it, maybe it got deleted!

However could you people settle an argument for me

I a few days ago on a forum I wrote that a cinema is a it is a fine place to go for a date.

This was corrected by someone saying it should be go on a date.

While I accept that is the norm I pointed out that the way I wrote it is not wrong,

The reply was its should be going on a date because it's a collocations, and they're always a constant.

I still think the way I wrote it is not wrong
