Goes/went

Hi teachers,

Both are in present situation. My boss is asking me where Jeff is. Which is correct?

A: Where is Jeff?
B: He goes down to buy something.

or

A: Where is Jeff?
B: He went down to buy something.

Thanks Anon, but what I meant was, my boss is asking me "right now" Where is Jeff? Should I say, "he goes down or he went down"?

You should say "He WENT down to ...", or "He HAS GONE down to ..." (or "He's gone down to ...")
