Vocabulary

godforsaken

I know that if you talk about a godforsaken place you're talking about one that is unattractive and contains nothing interesting, and this is the definition I've found in most dictionaries. But in one also said that 'it is a place far away from where people live and contains nothing interesting'.

So my questions is: is it essential for the place to be far away from where people live if you want to use this adjective? Can you say that your town or your neighbourhood are godforsaken if you think there's nothing interesting there?

TIA
