Vocabulary

goaltender V goalkeeper

Hi,

(1) Do you (AE speakers) use "goaltender" and "goalkeeper" to refer to "hockey goaltenders" and "soccer goalkeepers", respectively.
(2) Would it be acceptable/passable to call a hockey goalie just a "goalkeeper" (in AE)?
(3) In what other sports the term "goalkeeper" (not "goaltender") is used?
(4) In what other sports the term "goaltender" (not "goalkeeper") is used?
(5) Is the term "goaltender" common enough (as compared to "goalkeeper") in BE?

Yipes! I've always used 'goalie'—and I have no idea which word it is shortened from.

OK, let's take another "important" pair - BARTENDER v BARMAN.
Although my Longman claims "bartender" is AE and "barman" is BE, I guess the real usage may be less "black-and-white"?...
