I think this sentence is correct but I would like to know about the added clause using 'when'. Should I split it into 2 sentences?

This is the first time I've gone this long without seeing her since she was in the hospital when I went 12 hours without seeing her.

This is the first time I've gone this long without seeing her since she was in the hospital. I went 12 hours without seeing her when she was in the hospital.
