Go up/down B Street

"Drive along A Avenue and go up/down B Street..."

1. May I ask if up and down are both ok to use/interchangeable?

2. Does "up/down" imply direction? (like up=North and down=South)

  • They are pretty much interchangeable, especially if the street is more or less flat.
  • However, if you're actually traveling along a street that is rising, "up" is the much better choice, and vice versa for a descending street.
