Go to sleep vs Go to bed

Has "go to sleep" have the same "go to bed"?

Thanks.

Top answer

They can mean the same but in a very general sense. Just because someone goes to bed, does not mean that they will fall asleep. (go to sleep)

That was A-Stars' implication, yes, even though there may be a nuance depending on the situation.

To fall asleep could be used like this: I went to bed at 9:00, but I tossed and turned and didn't fall asleep until after 10:00.

Can I say "I go to sleep at 9:00, but I tossed and turned and didn't fall asleep until after 10:00"?

Thanks.

No, it doesn't make sense. We go to bed and then go to / fall asleep.
