1. "go to school "and "go to the school"

Go to school refers to going to do the activity (studying, being in class, etc.) and does not indicate a particular building or place.

Alphecca covered pretty much everything. I'll address the bed portion, though it does follow similar meanings.

"Go to bed" is generally used to mean to go to sleep in a bed.
I'm going to bed.
She went to bed at 10:30 last night.

"Go to the bed" would mean to travel to a specific bed.
I went to the bed to fix the sheets.
