Vocabulary

go to a movie

Yesterday, I went to see a movie.
Yesterday, I went to the movies.
Yesterday, I went to a movie.
I'm going to go to see a movie.
I'm going to go to the movies.
I'm going to go to a movie.

Are all these sentences correct? (Once an American friend of mine told me you don't say "I went to a movie", but I found this sentence "I'm going to go to a movie" in my English textbook.)

Thank you.

  • Your 4th one above is rather long and would probably be shortened by a native speaker: I'm going to go to see a movie => I'm going to go to / I'm going to see / I'm going to a movie.
