Vocabulary

go the Heming-way

I suppose this phrase means "to commit suicide". It's from a song so I think the write probably just made it up. It's obviously a pun, playing on "to go somebody's way". What do you think?

To go 'the Hemingway" means to take your own life, by shooting yourself in the head with a shotgun. It's named after the author Ernest Hemingway, who took his own life this way.

Thanks, Stormy. I guess I'm more interested in finding out whether native speakers have heard this phrase because, as I already said, I came across it in a song.

Oh, well that - I don't know. I guess we'll have to see if a native English speaker has heard of this. Emotion: smile

Too bad. I still think it's a clever pun, even though the connotations are bleak.
