go on sale

"Kate was waiting and watching for these high heels to go on sale."

What does the phrase "go on sale" mean here? Didn't they start selling the high heels yet, or was Kate waiting for the price to go down?
Thank you.

In British English, it would mean that she was waiting for the shoes to appear in the shops. If something is 'on sale' in BrE, it simply means that it is available for purchase.

Thank you, fivejedjon!
It's interesting to know there is such a difference between AmE and BrE in the phrase "on sale"!!
