Go on a trip

P1: You know, we've never been on a trip together, not even for a day.

P2: Yes, we really should go on a trip together.

P1: Why don't we just take a trip to France next month.

Would you agree with me that "a" is the only correct article in the third sentence?

The grammar books usually say that we should use "the" when mentioning a noun a second time (or a third/fourth etc). But they often fail to emphasize that when the noun is continuously used to generalize then "a" seems appropriate.
