Go for

The speakers urged the government to discard the plan altogether and warned that they would go for tougher programmes including a sit-in in front of the office of the XXX, if the process of acquiring their lands is not stopped immediately.



Are there any mistakes in the sentence above? What alternatives do I have for "go for"? Launch? Thanks.
