Go far in a career

Hello,

Does this sentence sound ok? I've got doubts about the preposition "in" and what follows it.

Maybe "as far as his career is concerned" sounds better?

"I think he will go far in his chosen career. "

Thank you

"As far as his career is concerned," to me sounds a bit wordy if all you are saying is that you think he will go far therein. "I think he will go far in his chosen career" sounds like a perfectly proper sentence, and in business/formal writing, would probably be preferred over the other.

Thank you Glen for your answer. You wrote that my sentence sounds good in business/formal writing. What about an informal writing? What should be changed in this sentence?

To answer that, I would need a bit more context. Has someone asked you how you feel about how someone will do in his chosen career, or are you merely writing a declarative/informational statement not based on previous inquiry? Either way, I would still opt for the less-wordy.

I just want to say this sentence and on the basis of what you wrote I think I will sound too formal.

Not at all. All I meant was, when you are writing for business/formal, you want to avoid wordiness. Saying it "I think he will go far in his chosen career" is not at all too formal for a declarative/informative sentence.

Oh, I'm sorry. I thought it's too formal to say. Thank you a lot for your answers Emotion: smile
