Go decaffeinated route

Hi

It's about a tea. Below this sentence is a recipe for a Vanilla Milk Tea.

"If you go the decaffeinated route, you can also serve this to children".

4 cups soft, filtered water
2 cups whole milk
1 tablespoon White Peony tea
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

--- Does it mean "if you drink tea without caffeine, you can also give this tea to children" or maybe "if you get rid of caffeine from this tea, you can serve this to children"?

"4 cups soft, filtered water" is an abbreviated form of "4 cups of soft, filtered water", and similarly for the others.

I should add that, of course, in most ordinary contexts "cup of" just means any cup full of something (e.g. "cup of tea", "cup of coffee"), not necessarily of any s
