Go by definition

Is it natural to say go by definition? Would you word it differently?

It’s not silent if you go by the definition but it’s relatively quite thus silent compared to other dish washers.

That sounds rather awkward to me. I suggest this. It'’s not completely silent, but it’s relatively silent compared to other dish-washers.
