Go by bicycle and by kayac

"We did a lot of excursions by bicycle and by kayac."
"We did a lot of excursions on bicycle and on kayac."

Although the first sentence sounds wrong to me -I would use the second intead, is it wrong? Because if it is, I can't really think of an explanation why.

Thanks.

Hi tarirotari, I would use the second, but I would not say the first is wrong. Prepositions are tricky and sometimes more than one works. You don't have to repeat the "on," though, and kayak is spelled with two Ks.

(Did this apply to you? I used to do a lot of kayaking. It's a wonderful way to see the water -- a very different perspective than in a speed boat.)

Hi Barbara,

Thanks for your response. The sentence wasn't mine.

But yes, I love kayaking and I often do it in summer. As you say, excellent prespective; and good exercise! I'm always quite stiff the day after my first sail of the season.

Thanks again
