go and go ahead

"finish it up" doesn't sound natural to me in this context. "finish it" seems more likely. "OK, let's go and finish it" implies that you are going to a different location to finish it.

  • "finish it up" doesn't sound natural to me in this context.

  • "OK, let's go and finish it" implies that you are going to a different location to finish it.
  • It gives the impression that the thing can be finished relatively quickly (in one "visit"), so it may not be appropriate in the context of a "project".
  • "OK, let's go ahead and finish it" suggests some kind of deliberation about what course of action is best, resulting in this decision to proceed ("go ahead").

The question "We would like you to help us complete this project" is not very likely to be asked of someone in that position.

Ok what must the boss respond to his assistants in the scenario I created above?

"OK, let's go ahead and do it" or "OK, let's go and do it" are both possible in that scenario. The difference is as I described in my earlier post: "go ahead and do it" means proceed with the project/plan (do it some time); "go and do it" means move to another location and do it now, with the implication that it can be done in "one visit".
