Go ahead

I would like to know the difference between "1" and "2".

1. I cancelled the reservation.

2. I went ahead and cancelled the reservation.

The main difference is that in the first example you cancelled the reservation out of your own free will. In the second example you are suggesting that there was somebody else involved - maybe you discussed the cancellation with someone else and you both agreed that you should do it, and you were the one who did the action of cancelling the reservation.
