Glitter or glimmer

Hi everybody.. could someone help me with this? which is a more appropriate usage? glittering stars or glimmering stars?

If you ask me, I would not use both.(Glimmer=shine with a faint light; glitter=shine with bright reflected light )

I would say 'twinkling stars'.
