Would it be okay to omit "for" in the following sentence?

I will leave your french doors gleaming for longer.

The sentence is not right. The sequence of words, "...leave your French doors gleaming...", cannot be used in English, in any context.

If someone said this to me, I'd think his English was fine, and I'd pay him to clean my french doors.
