He will have to put his glasses on; he can't read the sign from here.

I think that it's more than fine to just say glasses in this case.

You mentioned he couldn't read that sign from there, and it probably indicates he had to put glasses

I would add that "specs" and "spectacles" might well be current in Britain, but in the U.S. they both sound old-fashioned. Here they're generally called "glasses," unless you really need to distinguish them from glasses you drink out of, in which case you could say "eyeglasses."
