Personal statement :-

Imagine a young child going to a new city and being a little nervous but excited to experience all that it has to offer. When I was young, my family moved from Rajasthan to Kerala state. I enrolled in an English-medium school and began studying in a city whose culture and language were very different from ours. I had problems not only with my studies but also with my friends, because I couldn’t communicate with them in their language or understand their culture. Therefore, I became an outsider. I lost interest in school and felt lost in my life. After going through so much pain, I realised that I needed to change the way I was and started doing everything possible to change my life. I started to concentrate on my studies and started to teach myself English and Malayalam languages to communicate with others. To improve my English language skills, I attended a class called Resonance for three years, where I had to give news reports and speeches in front of a large group of students, and participated in school assembly activities such as giving speeches, news reports, vows, and prayers. I also participated in extracurricular activities and competitions, which developed my social skills, communication skills, competitive spirit, and self-confidence. When I was in 10th grade, my leg got fractured from falling down the stairs during the months of upcoming final exams. Many people thought I would have to retake 10th grade because of my situation, but I didn’t let that stop me. Despite those setbacks, I didn’t give up and achieved my goal of ranking fifth in my class and received an award for it. My school experiences developed me into a strong person with problem-solving skills and prepared me for future challenges. Thanks to those experiences, I can adapt to new environments and new cultures very easily.

After 10th grade, I majored in commerce to pursue my passion. Back then, I had zero knowledge of business and I used to think that running a business was something that anyone could accomplish. But my perspective on business was significantly altered after visiting my father’s store. After learning about business, I understood that it is competitive and risky. I learned that business people need to exercise extreme caution when managing their business and one mistake could put an entire company out of business. After learning about it, my interest was drawn towards the business world and wanted to learn more about it. Therefore, to achieve this goal of mine, I majored in commerce and spent two years learning the fundamentals of business, such as financial accounting, marketing, consumer behavior, statistics, and more. While studying business, I realized that businessmen not only make money, but also contribute to society by creating jobs, boosting the local economy, meeting customer needs, and so on. I enjoy seeing how happy customers are when their needs are fulfilled and I’m glad that I will develop into a person who will not only satisfy consumer wants but also benefit society by offering the services. In 2022, when everyone was chasing their dream life, I was told to sacrifice my dream. Since 10th grade, I have always dreamed of studying outside India, leading an independent life and experiencing the international student life. Additionally, I wanted to study in Asian nations because I believed that their rich cultures and top-notch educational systems would better prepare me to be both productive and competitive. When I was looking for studying abroad, I learned about South Korea and developed a strong interest in this country and its culture. I learned about the Korean education system, which is very competitive, and this academic environment will allow me to do my best and be authentic. In addition, I learned about the financial crises that occurred in 1997 and 2008, when South Korea’s economy was badly affected compared to others, and how, despite this, most Korean companies such as Samsung, Hyundai, LG, and POSCO are now well-known around the world, which piqued my interest in learning about South Korean business. After looking at the courses offered by Korean universities, I understood that South Korea was the best place to get my bachelor’s degree, where I could learn more about the business world and have the opportunity to work in top companies. I believe that in order to work in Korean companies, I must have valuable knowledge of South Korean business culture, and I can learn this by studying in South Korea. By studying in South Korea, I will be able to gain skills such as budget management, organization, critical thinking, communication, networking skills, creativity, which are important for any business organization. So getting my bachelor's degree in South Korea has become my dream and goal that I wanted to achieve no matter what. Unfortunately in 2022, I had to took the risk of taking gap year because my family were struggling financially. I turned this into a positive opportunity of growing myself. Thanks to gap year, I was able to gain valuable knowledge and experiences. I came to know about GKS program. During my gap year I prepared myself for this program and to study in South Korea. I learned about international student’s experiences and common problems faced by them in day to day life. With the help of internet, I got familiarized with Korean culture, traditions, food and Places. Additionally I started to learn Korean by myself and got to gain deep knowledge about South Korea. With the help of the app called Hilokal, I was able to make excellent international friends from South Korea, Vietnam, Japan, Malaysia, The Philippines, and Indonesia. We exchanged each other’s culture and learned Korean together. Speaking with native Korean helped me in gaining confidence to speak in Korean language and got the opportunity to learn more about South Korea in deep. I wanted to help my family financially, so I started to tutor students and earned some money. I’m a person who always tries to make best out of the time so whenever I got some free time, I would take online courses such as Digital marketing, Pardot lightning app, Non profit organization, Sale foundation, etc to gain some skills. Additionally, I gained knowledge of the Tally accounting program, which is used to create financial statements for businesses. I occasionally created sales and purchase accounts for my father’s business giving me experience in accounting sector. There is an adage that goes “if there is a will, there is a way” that has always motivated me to find ways to make my dream come true. My strong willpower to study in South Korea led me to find ways to achieve it, which is GKS program. I was in a position where I couldn’t even imagine studying in South Korea, but the GKS program made me dream of it and is a step towards achieving all my goals. My ultimate goal is not to study in South Korea, but also to aspire to and inspire others. I’m not interested in showing my skills to the world. Instead, I want to help people living in this world to achieve their goals and encourage them by showing them that they are capable of doing anything if they are passionate about it. I would also like to serve as a bridge between India and South Korea and offer my services to both countries. I will devote myself to working in South Korea and will use my full range of skills and also impart valuable knowledge to everyone, as the Korean government gives us so many opportunities to achieve our goals. I will be a model student and do my best to serve both countries and also work hard on my studies, give my all to South Korea and its universities. I have already made a promise to myself that I won’t return to my country unless I achieve all of my goals and do my best for both countries. I’m excited about starting a new life and will take my culture with me to learn a new culture. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to dream about studying in South Korea.
