GKS-U PERSONAL STATEMENT

Hi! I'm about to applying GKS Scholarship program, could you please review my personal statement? Thank you.

One of K-Drama I have ever whatched is Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim. This drama makes me wondering how challenging to be working as a medical personnel. It is not just about medical thing, not only about sickness or operations. It makes my mind opened with understanding about life of different people and how their choices affect them. So this drama gives me value in two different ways. I amazed with the medical device used in Korean hospital from this drama. Seeing those medical device and the procedure makes me interested and excited about developing innovative technologies for better healthcare. Related to health issue as COVID-19 cases, Indonesia is one of country with the biggest case of COVID-19. While Korean has found the antibody drugs for this virus, and about to begin commercial production. It makes me realized that Korean has better medical handling and I become motivated to study in Korean as a biomedical engineer

Both my father and my mother has not ever graduated from bachelor's degree, so I push myself to pursue my education higher. They really support me since I am their first son they rely on. I live in a small village far from the city, and there is a difference between school in village and school in city. According to the curriculum, school in city is more advance. Consequently, I went to national school in city in order to get better knowledge. Thankfully I could finish my twelve years education. During my school period, I always get an outstanding score and put my name on top 5 of my class. In addition, I also often attending non academic competion such as dance competition, choir competition, short story competition, and song making competition. I had ever called "competition hunter" by my friends and my teacher because I attended competition actively.

When I was a high school student, i tried to becoming a part of organization. I became a leader of Christian Spirituality Extracurricular, simply called SKK. There's many experience I had gotten when I became a leader of SKK. One of SKK's event I ran was Revelation's End Time Seminar in 2017. Preparing this event was so hard for me because I had never become a leader of a big event before. At that time my leadership was really examined because my team worked passively. In order to build a good cooperation, I had to always monitor and control my team. As a leader I couldn't sit still and just order them to do this and that. I had to checked out the latest update of my team and reminded them what to do next. From this way I found out that I could keep momentum I already created since the beginning so I could make the teamwork become more active. This event attended by all of the junior school and high school student in Mojokerto, Indonesia.

In 2018, I wrote two anthology book. One book I wrote with my classmates and the other one was an award book for the winner of short story competition in my school. The first book also consists of short story collection written by me and my classmates. These two books was launched as a motivation to make students realize the importance of literacy and persuade them to become productive through writing. I received a lot of appreciation from my teacher, because the short story I wrote gives big impact in my school's literacy. People became interested about me after reading my story and many of them want to study together with me about writing. From this experience, I can learn that everyone can inspire people in many ways.

Entering last year of my high school period, I tried to join a science olympiad. It is called International Medical Science and Application Competition for High School Student held by Faculty of Medicine Airlangga University in Surabaya, Indonesia. This olympiad consists of biology, physiscs, chemistry, and also medical biology. Preparing for this competition made me challenged because I had to divide my study routine in two, studying for national examination also for this competition. Firstly it was fresh for me because I never learn medical biology specifically except from biology in high school. So I put big effort for this olympiad since it is my last year become high school student. Maybe because my preparation for this competition is just several month while the other participant had prepare for long time before, I failed and eliminated in first round. But from this competition I have learnt about medical biology so it makes me understand the subject of biomedical engineering easier when I would have been studying as a biomedical engineering student later.

Lastly, I hope I have a chance to pursue this scholarship program. If I pass this application, I would spend my college period with an useful and rewarding activity. Besides being a engineering student, I would become a volunteer or part of organization to increase my softskill also make an unforgettable and amazing experience being a student and foreigner in Korea.
