give/take an exam

I have a mild confusion about giving/taking an exam. I'm writing down the meanings. Please correct me if I make any mistake.

According to UK English -

A student takes/sits for an exam.
The creator of the question paper writes the exam.
The teacher or invigilator gives the exam (that is hands out the question papers)

Am I going right?

Also, doesn't "the teacher gives the exam" mean the same as "the teacher hands out the question papers?" I got a little confused by that one...

There are different kinds of exams.
Some exams are set and administered by the teacher. In this sense, you could say The teacher gave the exam.

The student gave the exam is an Indian English phrase, from what I saw on Quora...

So, if the teacher doesn't set the paper and only administers the exam paper, then we can't say the teacher gave the exam? Oh, thank you!
